Kabir Hashim

Kabir Hashim, born in 1959, is a politician in Sri Lanka. He had his formal education at Royal College Colombo and Trinity College Kandy; and his tertiary education was from the University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka.[1] Kabir Hashim represents the United National Party (UNP), one of the two main political parties in Sri Lanka.[2]

Opposing the Proposal to Ban Single Stick Cigarettes Sales in Sri Lanka

A proposal presented to the cabinet by the then Minister of Health in September 2018 to ban single stick cigarette sales was opposed by Kabir Hasheem. Due to the objections raised by him and three other Cabinet Ministers – Mangala Samaraweera, Harin Fernando and Ravindra Samaraweera – it did not receive cabinet approval.[5][6]
