Background

National Authority on Tobacco and Alcohol (NATA) Act is the main regulatory framework to control tobacco and alcohol in Sri Lanka. Police officers are one of the four field level officers responsible for its enactment (others: Public Health Inspector (PHI), Excise Officer and Food and Drug Inspector).

According to the CTC annual Report 2013, this construction was done at the request of Ministry of Defence and was the third such police station constructed with CTC funds. Mankulam and Kilinochchi police stations being the first and the second, are in the Northern part of the country.
