Public Health Inspector (PHI)
Public Health Inspector is the government officer implementing public health functions of the Medical Officer of Health (MOH) at grass root level. He is one of the four officer categories authorised to implement National Authority on Tobacco and Alcohol (NATA) Act. His other areas of duty are:[1]
School health | Adolescent health | Environmental health | Housing and sanitation | Food health | Public health laws and regulations | Disaster management | Control of communicable and noncommunicable diseases | Health education and promotion
He is supervised by the following officers at MOH (Divisional) and Regional levels (in the ascending order of hierarchy:[1]
- MOH level – Supervising Public Health Inspector (SPHI), Medical Officer of Health (MOH)
- Regional level – Supervising Public Health Inspector/District (SPHID), Regional Director of Health Services (RDHS)
Variants of the PHI job categories include:[1]
- Principal PHI – National level supervisor category. The highest-ranking PHI of the country.
- SPHID – Regional level supervisor category. The highest-ranking PHI of the region.
- SPHI – MOH level supervisor category. A promotion from the PHI post.
